Firefighting efforts intensify in Chambarak–Ttujur area wildfire

As of 11:00 a.m. on November 24, intensive firefighting operations continue in the Chambarak–Ttujur area, where a large wildfire broke out over the weekend, the Rescue Service reported.

A total of 343 rescuers, supported by six main firefighting units and a Ministry of Defense helicopter, are currently engaged in efforts to contain and extinguish the blaze. Drone systems are also being used for aerial monitoring and coordination.

In total, 1,194 rescuers, 16 main vehicles, and 88 auxiliary units have been involved in the firefighting effort since operations began. The MoD helicopter has conducted 23 reconnaissance and water-dump flights.

The wildfire was first reported on November 21 to the Gegharkunik Regional Rescue Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, indicating that a grass-covered hillside in the Chambarak–Ttujur section had caught fire. A rapid response was organized, mobilizing units from the Rescue Service’s Yerevan, Lori, Ararat, Aragatsotn, Armavir, Gegharkunik, Kotayk, and Tavush regional departments, as well as specialized teams from the Emergency Response Center and other operational divisions.

Firefighters have so far managed to extinguish two of the fire’s hotspots through swift and coordinated action.

To ensure effective command and coordination, a firefighting headquarters has been established on-site. Personnel from the Police, Eco-Patrol Service, and residents of nearby villages are also assisting in efforts to contain the wildfire.
