Armenia inaugurates €14.8M waste management project in two provinces

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the city of Hrazdan in Kotayk Province to officially launch the Solid Waste Management Program for Kotayk and Gegharkunik provinces.

The €14.8 million project is being implemented through cooperation between the Government of Armenia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). As part of the initiative, a new sanitary landfill has been constructed in Hrazdan, along with waste transfer stations in the communities of Martuni and Akunk.

In addition, comprehensive waste collection schemes have been developed for all communities in both provinces in line with EU standards. These include optimized waste collection routes to ensure efficiency and sustainability. Based on these plans, the necessary machinery and equipment have been procured.

To manage waste collection services and operate the new landfill and transfer stations, the municipalities of both provinces have jointly established and registered a new company – “Kotayk and Gegharkunik SWM” LLC.

The project aims to improve environmental conditions, enhance public health, and introduce modern waste management practices across the two regions.
