European Council President Charles Michel and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, arrived at the Baku Stadium, ahead of the Climate Action Summit being held on Tuesday, November 12, Reuters reports.
This year’s U.N. climate summit – COP29 – is being held during yet another record-breaking year of higher global temperatures, adding pressure to negotiations aimed at curbing climate change.
The summit began on Monday with some prominent leaders planning to skip the event. Many country delegations were concerned that Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5 would hinder progress to limit planetary warming.
China’s first-ranked Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan, and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, were attending the summit on Tuesday.
