Putin not planning to congratulate Trump on victory – Peskov

Russian President Vladimir Putin is not planning to congratulate Republican Donald Trump on his victory in the presidential election, his press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journlaists today, TASS reports.

“I am not aware of the president’s plans to congratulate Trump on the election,” the Kremlin spokesman said. “Let’s not forget that we are talking about an unfriendly country that is directly and indirectly involved in a war against our state,” he noted.

Peskov said, however, that the Russian President is still ready for dialogue with the United States.

“President Putin has repeatedly said that he is open to constructive dialogue based on justice, equality and a willingness to take into account each other’s concerns. And President Putin maintains this attitude, he has repeatedly confirmed it,” the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.

“At the moment, the US administration has a diametrically opposite attitude. We’ll see what happens in January,” Peskov noted.

He is confident that the future of Russian-American relations, which are currently at their lowest point, depends on the US leadership.
