On Friday, November 1, former US President and Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump held a phone conversation with His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia.
Donald Trump highly appreciated His Holiness for his wise leadership, and expressed his full support for the issue of Artsakh and the establishment of lasting peace in the region. Trump also praised the Armenian-American community as strong, smart and dynamic.
In response, Catholicos Aram I thanked Trump for his public support for the Armenian people and stressed the vital importance of U.S. global leadership at this critical time.
He conveyed his strong expectation that a new U.S. Administration will deal seriously with the Artsakh issue – particularly with respect to ensuring the right of return for Artsakh’s Armenians, international guarantees for security and status, and accountability for ethnic cleansing.
Additionally, His Holiness emphasized the importance of robust Armenian representation under a new Administration and the need for open dialogue with both the Eastern and Western Prelacies of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America and the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
His Holiness had a meeting with two high-ranking officials from Donald Trumps campaign staff during his recent pontifical visit to the Eastern Armenian Diocese of the United States.
