The San Francisco Giants and President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey have named Vice President, Professional Scouting Zack Minasian as the club’s new General Manager, MLB reports.
“We are excited for Zack to take on this new role,” said Posey. “Zack has brought a wealth of knowledge and a lot of experience to the organization in his six years here. He’s also a thorough talent evaluator, but beyond that, he’s a terrific person our community will be proud of. We believe that in this new role he will immediately make us better as a team and organization and I look forward to working alongside him.”
The 41-year-old Minasian was promoted to Vice President, Professional Scouting of the Giants in 2022 after joining the organization by way of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2019. In his 14 seasons with the Brewers organization, Minasian served as a Special Advisor – Baseball Operations, Director – Professional Scouting, Manager of Minor League Scouting, Personnel/Coordinator of Pro Scouting and as a Baseball Operations Assistant. During his time with Milwaukee, he played a role in acquiring All-Star players such as CC Sabathia, Zack Greinke, Carlos Gómez, Josh Hader, Corey Knebel, Jean Segura and Will Smith.
“I’m extremely thankful to Buster and to the Giants organization for this incredible opportunity to help lead our baseball operations department in this new role,” said Minasian. “There is so much to appreciate about this organization – an existing nucleus of talent on both the Major League roster and throughout the minor league system, a passionate fan base, an incredible alumni group, and the organization’s commitment to the community. I look forward to collaborating alongside Buster, Bob Melvin and the coaching staff, and our entire baseball operations department to begin work of bringing a World Series championship back to San Francisco.”
The Arlington, TX native and graduate of the University of Texas-Arlington originally worked in a variety of roles under his father, also Zack Minasian, who was the clubhouse manager of the Rangers from 1988-2009. Minasian’s brother, Perry, is the current General Manager of the Los Angeles Angels after being hired in November of 2020.
Minasian comes from an Armenian family deeply rooted in baseball. Through his decades spent in the Rangers clubhouse, his father became best friends with the late Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda, who was Zack’s godfather. Minasian’s brother Calvin is the clubhouse director for the Atlanta Braves and his other brother, Perry, has been the Los Angeles Angels general manager since 2020.
