Belgian zoo animals get pumpkin treats to celebrate Halloween
Belgium’s biggest zoo celebrated Halloween in style this week, with everything from hippopotamuses being fed pumpkins to ghost pandas dancing around the park, Reuters reports.
“We share Halloween also with our animals. We treat them with pumpkins that are – depending on how they like it – stuffed with proteins, meat or worms or vegetables,” said Pairi Daiza zoo’ spokesperson Johan Vreys on Wednesday (October 30).
“We like to keep them a little bit on edge, interested and stimulated, so we use the pumpkins sometimes just as wrapping and as a challenge to get to their food,” he explained.
Pairi Daiza invites visitors to celebrate Halloween every year together with its 7,500 animals by organizing multiple shows and activities around the theme.
