Russia accuses the West of attempting to “interfere” in the South Caucasus affairs
The United States and a number of Western countries are trying to interfere in the affairs of the South Caucasus under the pretext of participating in the settlement process that has already been prepared with the active participation of the Russian Federation, Russian President’s aide Yuri Ushakov said at a briefing today.
“The United States and a number of other Western countries are trying to wedge into the process of working on a peace treaty [between Azerbaijan and Armenia]. We think all the dirty work was done in Moscow, and now the Westerners simply want to interfere in the negotiation process and thereby interfere in regional affairs and the region itself,” the Russian presidential aide said.
“Although, to put it mildly, even not all participants of bilateral negotiations [between Armenia and Azerbaijan] welcome such a role for the West and these attempts to wedge into the negotiation process,” the diplomat shared. “The activities of the EU mission in Armenia are also not welcomed,” Ushakov said, adding that “unfortunately, this mission is expanding.”
