EU interested in developing relations with Armenia: PM Pashinyan receives European Commission Vice-President

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the delegation led by Margaritis Schinas, Vice President of the European Commission, Commissioner for Promoting the European Way of Life.

The Prime Minister welcomed the visit of Mr. Schinas to Armenia and noted that it will contribute to the discussion of the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda and the further development of cooperation.

Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia is actually expanding its agenda with the European Union. The Prime Minister added that especially after his speech in the European Parliament last year, discussions are under way in our country regarding the possibility of the Republic of Armenia becoming a member of the European Union.

“This is not a simple issue, but it has become part of the Armenian political agenda, so it is necessary to approach this topic in detail and comprehensively. Here, it will be important to listen to the observations and advice of our EU partners,” said the Head of Government.

Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of the activities of the European Civilian Mission in Armenia in the context of ensuring peace and stability in the region. The Prime Minister also emphasized the close cooperation with the EU in promoting institutional reforms in our country more effectively.

Margaritis Schinas stressed the interest of the European Union to develop relations with Armenia, to contribute to the promotion of reforms in Armenia. At the same time, the Vice President of the European Commission expressed hope for effective cooperation with the Government of Armenia on visa liberalization dialogue.

The interlocutors also discussed issues related to the implementation of the agreements reached at the high-level meeting of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the President of the European Commission and the US Secretary of State in Brussels on April 5. Thoughts were exchanged on other issues of regional significance.
