The presence of the EU Monitoring Mission in Armenia is an issue to be discussed between Armenia and EU, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Sargis Khandanyan said at a briefing with journalists.
“The EU monitors are deployed on the territory of the Republic of Armenia and carry out monitoring on the Armenian side of the border. Therefore, it’s up to Armenia and EU to decide on the terms of EU presence. When the peace treaty is signed, when the delimitation process is completed, and regional peace is established, logically there could be no need for the monitoring mission, but the issue is not being discussed at the moment,” Khandanyan said.
The comments come after an aide to the Azerbaijani President said the agreement on the border commission “should be seen as sufficient for the withdrawal of the EU contingent.”
