The village of Areni in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor province will host the 3rd International Crafts Festival on September 14-15. The event will be held on the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
The archaeological materials found in Areni – wineries, grape remains and the world’s oldest shoe – distinguish it as a traditional winemaking site.
About 40 craftsmen from Armenia and 10 countries of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine, North Macedonia) will participate in the festival.
The festival will mark the start of one of the most comprehensive and participatory events in Europe, the European Heritage Days, which this year will take place under the theme “Roads, Networks, Connections.”
During the festival, the national crafts of Armenians and other peoples will be presented in Areni community. These will include carpet weaving, embroidery, lace making, doll making, woodworking, pottery, blacksmithing, jewelry making, straw making, etc. Various cultural events are expected during the festival.
The First International Crafts Festival was held in Gyumri, the city of masters, in 2022. Dilijan was the venue for the 2nd International Crafts Festival.
