France recalls Ambassador to Azerbaijan ‘for consultations,’ accuses Baku of ‘damaging ties’

France has recalled its Ambassador to Azerbaijan for consultations, the French Foreign Ministry informs.

The decision was made due to the continued unilateral actions by Azerbaijan damaging the relationship between the two countries.

President Emmanuel Macron received Ambassador  Anne Boillon in Paris on Tuesday to discuss the issue. He voiced regret over Azerbaijan’s actions and expressed the wish for clarification by the Azerbaijani side of its intentions.

“France reiterates its support for the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, while respecting international law and the territorial integrity of the two countries. This standardization will benefit both countries and the entire region,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
