Syria stands by Armenia in overcoming challenges – Bashar al-Assad

The delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan met with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Bashar al-Assad.

Expressing his gratitude for the invitation and warm welcome, Hakob Arshakyan noted that Armenia values the warm friendly relations with Syria and emphasized the special importance of the Syrian Armenian community as a stable bridge of friendship between the two countries and peoples.

Referring to the Syrian crisis, the Deputy Speaker noted that from the very first day Armenia has been advocating for the settlement of the problem through dialogue on the basis of preservation of Syria’s sovereignty, peace and security.

Speaking about the situation in the South Caucasus region. Hakob Arshakyan presented the idea of the “Crossroads of Peace” put forward by Armenia, stressing the importance of the roadmap for peace in the region.

He expressed confidence that the Armenian-Syrian cooperation has a great potential for development and expansion, and Armenia is ready to support the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Syria for the benefit of the friendly peoples.

The President of the Syrian Arab Republic highly appreciated the friendly relations between Armenia and Syria and emphasized the role of the Armenian community in the development of cultural, economic and other spheres of Syria.

“Syria considers Armenians a part of its state, society and value system. Armenia’s problems are not alien to us, and we stand by Armenia’s side in overcoming problems and challenges,” said Bashar al-Assad.

He highlighted interparliamentary cooperation, which has always been at a high level and plays a key role in the development of cooperation between our states.

At the end of the meeting the interlocutors wished peace and prosperity to the brotherly Armenian and Syrian peoples.

Deputies Rustam Bakoyan, Shirak Torosyan and Aren Mkrtchyan took part in the meeting.
