Armenian FM briefs Chair of European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee on Artsakh blockade

On a working visit to Brussels, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with David McAllister, Chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

Issues related to regional security and stability were discussed.

Ararat Mirzoyan briefed the interlocutor on the consequences of the blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan, noting that Baku aims at subjecting the 120 thousand Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh to ethnic cleansing.

Minister Mirzoyan stressed the need for the international community to increase pressure on Azerbaijan in order to prevent a humanitarian disaster in Nagorno-Karabakh. In this context, the Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the urgent resolution on the blocking of the Lachin Corridor adopted at the plenary session of the European Parliament on January 18-19 and the principled stance expressed in the 2022 reports on Implementation of the common foreign and security policy, which objectively reflect the situation in the region.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the process of settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.

Ararat Mirzoyan and David McAllister addressed issues on the agenda of the Armenia-EU partnership and the prospects for its expansion. The work of the EU monitoring mission, which ended on December 19, was also highly appreciated.
