84-year-old Misha Melkonyan, a civilian captured by the Azerbaijani armed forces, died last night, Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan informs.
“Taking into account all the evidence and facts on inhuman treatment and cruelty towards Armenians captured by Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the reasonable assumption on the reason of our compatriot’s death becomes clear,” the Ombudsman said.
The Azerbaijani authorities announced yesterday that the Armenian side refused to receive 84-year-old civilian.
Armenia’s Human Rights Defender’s investigation proved that this statement did not correspond to the reality.
After the release of the Azerbaijani authorities’ statement, the Human Rights Defender submitted urgent inquiries to the relevant bodies of Armenia.
It was confirmed that in reality, according to the recommendation of medical specialists, the health condition of the Armenian did not allow his transfer.
On October 29, 85-year-old Evgenia Babayan was transferred to the Armenian side.
