How Armenian air traffic controllers helped prevent collision in Turkish airspace

Two years after the incident, Armenian air traffic controllers reveal having prevented a collission of two planes in Turkish airspace.

“About two years ago a possible air incident in the Turkish air space was prevented thanks to the skills of Armenian air traffic controllers and our technical capacities,” Air Traffic Services Director at ARMATS (Armenian Air Traffic Services) told Public Radio of Armenia.

“Two planes were approaching each other, and based on the information provided by our traffic controllers, one aircraft was prevented from landing and the other from approaching,” he said, adding that one of the planes was heading to Armenia.

According to Papoyan, Turkish colleagues contacted the Armenian side to express gratitude for preventing a possible collision.
