Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today handed Armenian State Prize for Global Investment in IT to Japanese scientist, Professor of Carnegie Mellon University, author of the Origami World theory , creator of the concept of “Virtual Reality” Takeo Kanade.
The Prime Minister noted that the decision to hand him the award is an appreciation of Mr. Kanade’s achievements and noted that his experience in science and high technology is exemplary for Armenian youth who are making the first steps in the IT field.
Takeo Kanade thanked Prime Minister Pashinyan for the appreciation of his work and emphasized that he sees a great future for high technology in Armenia. He expressed willingness to work closely with Armenian counterparts to pass on his experience and capabilities to the latter.
Inaugurated in 2009, the Global IT Award, the award is aimed at the enhancement of the development of the IT sector.
The award is annual and is bestowed on individuals who have made outstanding contribution to the area and whose input – technological, educational, organizational, financial or other has resulted in significant developments in the area of information technologies.
The winners of recent years were: former CEO of “Intel Corporation” Craig Barrett, the Co-Founder of Apple Inc. Steve Wozniak, Chairman Emeritus of Synaptics, Inc. and President of “Federico and Elvia Faggin” Foundation Federico Faggin, former CEO of Hitachi Tsugio Makimoto, Chief Development Officer of Sysco Systems Mario Mazzola, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Kaspersky Lab Eugene Kaspersky, one of the founding fathers of Internet and CEO at Open-Root Louis Pouzin and the founder of Nest labs, the creator of iPod Tony Fadell, and the founder of the company National Instruments James Truchard.
