Los Angeles dedicates square to William Saroyan

A square at the crossing of Commerce Avenue and Valmont Street in Tujunga-Sunland neighborhood in Los Angeles has been dedicated to Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Saroyan.

The plaque was uncovered by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez.

Armenian Assembly of America Western Region Director Mihran Toumajan addressed a sizable crowd of Armenian Cultural Festival participants at the unveiling of Willliam Saroyan Square.

During his speech, Toumajan thanked Councilmember Rodriguez for her leadership and for spearheading the motion in the Los Angeles City Council – approved unanimously by fellow Los Angeles City Council Members – to designate the square in memory of William Saroyan, a giant of 20th century American literature and the arts.
