Armenia will never forget Jacques Chirac’s sincere friendship: PM leaves note in condolence book

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the French Embassy in Armenia today.

 On behalf of the Armenian government and on his own behalf, PM Pashinyan offered condolences to Ambassador Jonathan Lacôte, the Embasst staff and the friendly people of France over the demise of French ex-President Jacques Chirac.

Nikol Pashinyan left a note in the condolence book opened at the Embassy.

“In Armenia, we were deeply saddened by the death of former French President Jacques Chirac. France lost a statesman and a great man,” the Prime Minister wrote.

“President Chirac was indeed one of the symbols of revival of Armenian-French interstate relations. The Armenian people will never forget his sincere friendship, his decisive contribution to the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and the mediation efforts for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. His state visit to Armenia was a great event for us,” he added.

“Jacques Chirac’s death is truly a great loss for all of us. I extend my deepest condolences to the friendly people of France, the French state and the family and friends of Chirac. His name will always remain bright in our hearts and souls,” Nikol Pashinyan concluded.

Jacques Chirac died on September 26 aged 86. Armenian Foreign MInister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan has left for Paris to participate in the ex-President’s funeral.
