Armenia is importing electricity from Iran amid power outage, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Energy Infrastructures Hakob Vardanyan told Public Radio of Armenia.
Negotiations are under way to ensure additional energy supply from Georgia, he added.
The Ministry said in a statement that frequency fluctuations in Armenia’s power system caused the protection systems to respond. The 5th energy bloc Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant and smaller energy producers went down.
Stability has now been restored, and energy supply is being restored, the Ministry said.
A task group will be established to study the causes of the collapse.
