Police reiterate intention to break up anti-government protests

The Yerevan Police have issued a new statement, reminding of the decision to stop the anti-government protests led by MP Nikol Pashinyan.

As required by law, Nikol Pashinyan has been notified about the decision this morning.

The Police say, however that the MP has ignored the demands, failed to comply with his commitments as organizer of the protest and urged to continue the rally and carry out actions that restrict the rights and freedoms of others and disturb the public order.

The statement refers to Article 33, part 3 of RA Law on the Freedom of Assembly, which authorizes the lawmakers to take special measures to disperse the rally.

The Police say they are ready to carry out their obligations at any moment and once again urges the participants of the protest to refrain from “unlawful acts” to avoid “unwanted consequences.”
