Turkologist Meline Anumyan lectures on Islamized Armenians

Turkologist Meline Anumyan delivered a lecture at Glendale Central Library on November 13. The lecture was hosted by the Armenian Rights Council and Nor Or Armenian Weekly.

In the lecture on “Islamized Armenians and Armenian-speaking gypsies of Turkey” Anumyan, a researcher at the Center for Western Armenian Studies, presented the process of forceful assimilation of Armenians during and after the Armenian Genocide, as well as the issues of Islamized Armenians and Armenian-speaking gypsies in Turkey, focusing primarily on Hamshen-Armenians and identity issues.

The speaker also briefed on the fundamental results of her field studies conducted in Hamshen in 2015 and 2016.

Meline Anumyan, en editor for the Turkish Programs for Public Radio of Armenia, delivered another lecture at Glendale’s Krikor and Mariam Karamanoukian Glendale Youth Center on November 16. She will next speak in Pasadena on November 20.
