EU’s stance on Karabakh issue unchanged: Edward Nalbandian

European Union’s position on Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolution has been unchanged, the EU supports the efforts and approaches of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at a joint press conference with his visiting Brazilian counterpart Aloysio Nunes Ferreira.

“It has always been a well comprehended and elaborated approach aimed at supporting the Co-Chairs’ efforts with a view of contributing to the peace process rather than causing harm to the process. The EU has always adhered to this position,” Minister Nalbandian said.

The comments come after reports claiming that the only provision of the forthcoming Eastern Partnership Summit Declaration that has not yet been agreed, is the one related to conflicts. Reports say it has not been possible to come to an agreement because of differences between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Here it is more relevant to talk not about the differences of approaches between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution, which are well known, but about the differences of approaches between Azerbaijan and the European Union, Azerbaijan and the international community,” Minister Nalbandian stated.

Armenia’s top diplomat refrained from further comments on the Declaration. “Negotiations continue and before they are concluded it is premature to state something on this Declaration. There are still several days. We’ll see,” Edward Nalbandian concluded.
