System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has written the first 7 notes of a new song. Can you finish it?
So long as you start with those 7 notes, keep the show to under 3 minutes, and apply by December 15, you’ll be in the running for the $5,000 prize.
“A lot of people ask me where music comes from, where songs come from. I always firmly believe that they come from collective conciousness, they do not necessarily reside within an artist,”Serj Tankian said in a video, announcing the challenge.
“Every song begins with an idea, a concept or a sound,” Tankian said. He offered seven notes that should be the start of a composition. The music – be it jazz, rock or symphony – cannot be longer than 3 minutes.
