On September 5-6, Lydian Armenia, together with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Armenia held a joint Road Safety educational event for the schoolchildren of Amulsar surrounding communities. Last year Road Safety presentations were held in the schools of Jermuk, Kechut and Gndevaz communities of Vayots Dzor region. All schoolchildren received safety reflector equipped schoolbags that Lydian purchased from a Lithuanian company. Lithuania is famous for its exemplary road safety system and regulations. This year the joint project expanded to the community of Gorayk in Syunik region and Saravan of Vayots Dzor region. Reflector equipped schoolbags were distributed to all schoolchildren in these two communities and to the first graders in Jermuk, Kechut and Gndevaz. Reflectors are obligatory in most European countries, to make children visible and safe on the streets.
The project aims at educating children at Amulsar surrounding communities on road safety and traffic rules.
Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Armenia Mr. Erikas Petrikas, Lydian Armenia Managing Director Mr. Hayk Aloyan and representatives of Lithuanian Road Administration Mr. Slapsys Laurynas and Mr. Lapinas Viktoras participated at the event, that included presentations on road safety and use of reflector equipped items distributed to the children.
Speaking at the event Ambassador Erikas Petrikas referred to the Lithuanian experience, where European road safety culture, that was uncommon right after the independence, is an important part of the daily life today.
“We want to share this experience with Armenia. That is why we are implementing this project for the 4th year now. We have started the project several years ago, with Yerevan and Shirak and last year, in cooperation with Lydian, we came to Vayots Dzor and now to Syunik. Our aim is to bring road safety culture to Armenian communities and we are glad that Lydian shares our commitment to the promotion of safety in peoples’ everyday lives”, Ambassador Petrikas said.
Lydian Armenia Managing Director Mr. Hayk Aloyan thanked Ambassador Petrikas for the productive cooperation. “This cooperation is the reflection of the special care Lydian has towards health and safety issues as one of our core commitments. As construction activities at Amulsar ramp up, growing economic activity results in activated traffic at Amulsar surrounding communities. Road safety issues are often vivid in Armenia, with sometimes missing traffic lights and signs. The drivers and pedestrians are also often less attentive towards road safety issues than desired. Lydian implements this project at Amulsar communities to fill this gap and we are glad to cooperate with the Embassy of Lithuania on this important project”.
As part of the project last Year Lydian equipped the main street to Jermuk with a new digital traffic light and missing traffic signs. Overall in two years Lydian has invested around 8 million Armenian Drams in various road safety initiatives.
