Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé pledge to help Houston flood victims

Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian West are among those who have pledged to help the victims of catastrophic flooding in the wake of Storm Harvey, London Evening Standard reports.

Beyoncé said in a statement that she is working with her charity to send aid to her hometown of Houston, adding: “My heart goes out to my home town, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected”.

The 35-year-old performer, who now lives in LA with husband Jay Z, grew up in the south-western US city, which has been devastated by catastrophic flooding in recent days.

Reality star Kim Kardashian and her family also pledged to donate half a million dollars, and encouraged others to also give money.

Her spokeswoman said she and her mother and sisters have given $250,000 to the Red Cross and $250,000 to the Salvation Army.

Harvey, the fiercest hurricane to hit the US in 13 years, reached land over the weekend.

It was initially ranked as a category four hurricane before being downgraded to a tropical storm.

At least nine people, including six members of the same family, are feared dead in the storm and 30,000 people are expected to be needing shelter, authorities said.

The deluge is thought to become the worst rainstorm in American history, with three more days of downpours forecast.
