Henrikh Mkhitaryan named in European Team of the Week

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been named in the European Team of the Week by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Sport Witness  reports.

Each week Gazzetta select the best players around Europe from outside Serie A, and the Armenia international was picked after his inspirational performance against Swansea City on Saturday.

This time last year Mkhitaryan was struggling to get games with Manchester United after moving from Borussia Dortmund. However, everything began to click in the second half of the last campaign, and this weekend the playmaker put in a match winning performance.

Mkhitaryan provided assists for Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial as Jose Mourinho’s side cruised to a 4-0 victory, their second in as many matches. The result maintained Manchester United’s 100% start to the season, and the club remain top of the Premier League table.

The 28 year old also put in an impressive performance against West Ham last weekend, when he was again on hand to provide assists for his teammates.

The Armenian midfielder has also been picked into the Premier League Team of the Week by BBC pundit Garth Crooks.

According to the BBC, “the Armenia international complements this new-look Manchester United team perfectly.”

This is a very uncomplicated footballer. He doesn’t fuss when things don’t go his own way and loves to get involved in the action.

Mkhitaryan was responsible for striker Romelu Lukaku and midfielder Paul Pogba’s goals, which both came within a matter of minutes. It was also Mkhitaryan’s performance that put the game well out of Swansea’s reach.
