The criminal cases concerning family violence of the first half of this year have been studied in the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. As the Committee reports, according to the studies, 215 family violence cases have been investigated during the mentioned period.
The majority of the cases concern violence shown by a husband. Besides that, there are cases of a murder commited by a family member, sexual abuse towards children, avoidance of child care and other crimes. There are 43 criminal cases sent to the court concerning 46 people.
The term «family violence» is used according to the wording fixed in the Committee President’s order from November 17, 2017: «physical or psychological violating actions that take place in a family or a family unit or between ex- (or present) spouses or lovers regardless of the fact whether the violator resided or resides at the same place with the victim».
