“Megeryan Carpet” becomes 100 years old soon

The “Megeryan Carpet” company will celebrate its 100th anniversary in Fall. The company works in Armenia for 15 years.

Old Armenian carpets are given a new life here. They are durable due to the double knot usage in weaving. The weavers are paid according to the number of knots. The experienced workers also teach schoolchildren and youth.

The factory provides 400 working places at the moment while it provided 1800 when founded. Before Armenia the company had its branches not only in New York but also in many other countries.  As the company President Raffi Megeryan admits, the Armenian branch was established on his father’s advice: “I said: dad, we make charity actions, we do everything for Armenia, he said: that is the charity actions that break the people, you should give them jobs. Our people are hard-working people, our people were always far from begging”.

A museum was opened in “Megeryan Carpet” 3 years ago. The most ancient carpet exhibited there belongs to 1700’s.
