Mkhitaryan’s strike in Europa League final nominated for Man Utd’s Goal of the Month

Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s UEFA Europa League final strike for Manchester United against Ajax is the headline-grabbing effort in May’s Goal of the Month poll, but the midfield Armenian faces some tough competition for the award, according to the club’s official website.

Mkhitaryan’s clever piece of improvisation during the second half of the showdown in Stockholm all but secured the trophy for the Reds, and is one of eight contenders on the final shortlist of the 2016/17 campaign.

Marcus Rashford’s stunning free-kick in the semi-final first leg against Celta Vigo is the first entry to feature, followed by a vital header from Marouane Fellaini in the return fixture at Old Trafford.

The sole representative from the Under-18s is Ethan Hamilton’s second goal during the Reds’ league defeat to Blackburn Rovers, a terrific left-foot shot from outside the area.

Each of Josh Harrop’s three goals for United’s Reserves against Tottenham Hotspur also make the cut, as well as the youngster’s memorable finish on his senior debut against Crystal Palace a week later, a strike which is sure to be popular among fans.

Voting is under way at www.manutd.com/GOTM. The result will be announced on Friday afternoon.
