Session of India-Armenia Inter-Governmental Commission held in Yerevan

Armenia IndiaThe Seventh Session of India-Armenia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific & Technological, Cultural and Educational Cooperation (IGC) and Eight India-Armenia Foreign Office Consultations (FOC), were held in Yerevan on 01 April 2016. The Indian delegation was led by H.E. Ms. Sujata Mehta, Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, India.  The Armenian delegation was led by H.E. Mr. Robert Harutyunyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

The deliberations at the IGC meeting provided good opportunity to review the current state of ongoing cooperation in diverse fields. Special emphasis was made on further augmentation of bilateral trade and Investment, expansion of cooperation in the Information and Communication Technology, Science and Technology, Culture, Healthcare, Agriculture, Capacity Building and others. Both sides have identified Space and Innovative technology as new potential areas for cooperation.

The two sides decided to commemorate the 25h anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Armenia in 2017 with series of cultural events, including release of a joint postage stamp and translation of classical works into each other’s languages.

The Indian delegation visited Indo-Armenian IT Centre of Excellence and discussed possibility of enhancing the existing capacities of the Centre which is equipped with the Indian Super Computer ‘PARAM”.

On 2 April, the Indian delegation led by Ms. Sujata Mehta visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, laid flowers at the monument of the 1915 Armenian Genocide victims and observed a minute of silence.
