Hollande reaffirms commitment to peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict

French President Francois Hollande has issued a statement, expressing deep regret over the serious incidents along the  Nagorno Karabakh Line of Contact, which resulted in several casualties, including civilians.

“These events are the most serious and deadly since the agreement reached in 1994 when the conflict had already 30,000 deaths,” Hollande said.

“He called on the parties to exercise the utmost restraint and respect the immediate, total and durable cease-fire. Peace should be an absolute priority. There is no alternative to a negotiated solution,” the statement reads.

The President of the Republic, who hosted the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Paris in October 2014, reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful settlement in the shortest possible time.
