Russian Defense Minister calls for de-escalation of Karabakh tensions

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu held emergency phone talks with his counterparts from Armenia and Azerbaijan in light of tensions in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press service said Saturday, Sputnik News reports. 

According to the information received by the Russian Defense Ministry, tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh region escalated late on April 1 and in the early hours of April 2.

“In light of the latest developments, on April 2, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu held telephone talks with his colleagues, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, on the necessity of urgent measures to stabilize the situation in the conflict zone,” the press servic said
