Armenian contract serviceman killed in Azeri firing

The situation at the line of contact remains tense. For the first time, the rival fired from a tank in the direction of the Armenian military positions located in the southern direction of the line of contact, the NKR Ministry of Defense reports.

The Ministry said a total of 180 cases of ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan were registered at the line of contact between the armed forces of Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan last night. The rival used artillery weapons of different calibre, also as 60, 82 and 120 mm mortars, HAN-17 and RGP-7 grenades as it fired more than 1,500 shots in the direction of the Armenian forces. The adversary used TR-107 missile units and a tank.

Armenian contract serviceman Garik Avanesyan, born in 1991, was killed as a result of Azeri firing at about 21:10, December 8.

Investigation into the details of the incident is under way.

The NKR Ministry of Defense shares the sorrow of the heavy loss and expresses its sympathy to the family and friends of the killed serviceman.

The Ministry declares that the destabilizing actions of the rival will not go unpunished and vows heavy and irreversible consequences.
