Tens detained for violating the public order: Police

Tens of citizens were detained for violating the public order, the Armenian Police said in a statement released today.

The Police said it held hours-long negotiations with the protesters, and had to resort to other actions to disperse the protest after the talks turned useless.

The Police said the actions comply with Article 34 of the Law of the Republic of Armenia on the Freedom of Assembly.

Under the law, the protests in residential areas cannot be accompanied by noise from 10 p.m. to 8. a.m. Therefore, the protesters were offered to continue the rally at Liberty Square or other non-residential areas.

The activists were also offered to form a group of five to meet with the President, but the proposal was turned down.
