NATO Rep. says impressed by participation of Armenian women in peace-building efforts





NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security, Ambassador Mariet Shurman is visiting Armenia with an aim of getting notion about the involvement of women in peace and security-building. She said Armenia’s experience of ensuring equality between men and women is impressing.

“When we speak about the prevention and settlement of conflicts, men and women should have equal participation here. It’s impossible to build peace without taking into consideration the opinion of the half of the society,” she said.

As for negations on conflict settlement, Mariet Shurman said female mediators have often had serious achievements.

Within the framework of the visit the NATO Special Representative has had meetings at the Armenian Parliament, the Ministry of Defense and has talked to representatives of civil society.
