An armed man has been detained by police after breaking in to occupy the ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) office building in Istanbul’s Kartal district, the Hurriyet Daily News reports.
The man ordered all those inside to leave the building before ascending to the top floor of the seven-story building. The man subsequently broke a number of windows and hung a Turkish flag with a sword on it.
The man then proceeded to make speeches from the window to people gathered outside the building.
The content of the speech and the demands of the man have yet to be made clear.
Special security units entered the building and detained the man.
Police also halted traffic in front of the building.
