Russia pulling out of PACE until end of 2015

The Russian delegation is pulling out of the sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and will suspend all contacts with PACE until the end of the year, delegation head Alexei Pushkov has said, Interfax reports.

“We are pulling out of PACE until the end of the year,” Pushkov told reporters on Wednesday, after PACE again suspended the Russian delegation’s voting rights and its right to be represented in some of the assembly’s ruling bodies for the period up to April.

In addition to that, Russia will suspend any contacts with PACE until the end of 2015, he said.

An Armenian delegation abstained in the January 28 vote at the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) where its ally Russia was stripped of its voting and other rights at the Strasbourg-based body at least until spring.

A total of 160 members of the PACE voted in favor of the resolution setting demands to Russia, including over the crisis in Ukraine. Three members of the Armenian delegation were among the 11 members of the body who abstained during the vote, while 42 PACE delegates voted against the resolution.
