Lavrov: Attempts to politicize the Gyumri tragedy unacceptable

Attempts to politicize the tragedy in Gyumri, where a family was killed, are unacceptable, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a press conference today, RIA Novosti reports.

“We have seen attempts to politicize this situation. They don’t come either from the Armenia or the Russian leadership. Many would like to use the tragedy to gain certain geopolitical advantages.  This is disgusting and unacceptable, and unworthy of the Armenian people, who would never yield to such provocations,” Lavrov said.

“We will do our best to ensure that the crime is punished, that the guilty gets the most severe sentence. We’ll do our best not to allow the reoccurrence of such crimes in the future,” the Foreign Minister stated.

He assured that the trial of the case in Armenia would be maximally open.

Sergey Lavrov noted that “the Russian-Armenian relations will not suffer because of the current situation.”
