Clashes in Gyumri: 14 hospitalized, 13 detained

Hundreds of angry Gyumri residents clashed with police on Thursday evening, as they marched to the Russian Consulate to demand handover of the Russian soldier who murdered a family of six in Gyurmi Monday to the Armenian authorities.

Fourteen people, including five policemen, were taken to hospital, 13 were detained.

MP Martun Grigoryan from Prosperous Armenia Party told a group of citizens in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office he visited the Russian military base #102 to ascertain that the criminal was there.

Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan once again spoke to the protesters close to midnight. He reiterated the pledge to apply to his Russian counterpart asking for handover of Valery Permyakov to the Armenian law-enforcement bodies.
