ARMNOC: Armenian athletes should participate in Baku Games, but final decision is yet to come

The Armenian National Olympic Committee issued a statement today, saying it considers that Armenian athletes should participate in the first European Olympic Games in Baku. However, taking into consideration the sensitivity and importance of the issue, the final decision will be made after meetings with representatives of the field of sport.

The statement comes after the Armenian delegates participated in the 43rd session of the European Olympic Committee in the Azerbaijani capital.

“The participants hailed the decision of the Armenian National Committee to attend the session. They stressed that this step of the Armenian side was an important contribution to the establishment of peace and reinforcement of solidarity in the world of sport, at the same time raising the idea of the Olympic movement to a new level,” the statement reads.

On the sidelines of the session, members of the Armenian delegation met with their counterparts from different countries to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation.

The question of Armenia’s participation in the first European Olympic Games was discussed at a meeting with representatives of the European Olympic Committee. The organizers once again pledged to provide security guarantees to the Armenian delegation.

It was decided to hold the 45th jubilee session of the European Olympic Committee in  in Yerevan, Armenia.
