The Vatican announced this that Pope Francis will be visiting Turkey in November.
“The Holy Father will visit Ankara and Istanbul from Nov. 28 to 30,” Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said in a statement.
Pope Francis will be meeting with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. In addition, the Pope is expected to meet with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, the leader of the Orthodox Church that is the second largest church after Roman Catholicism.
This trip will be Pope Francis’ first visit to Turkey, and his third visit to a Muslim-majority nation that includes Jordan and Albania.
