Armenia may declare December 9 the Day of Remembrance of Genocide Victims

The Armenian Government suggested today to declare December 9 the Day of Remembrance of Genocide Victims.

MP Zaruhi Postanjyan had earlier submitted a draft package, suggesting to mark the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of Pontic Greeks, Assyrians, Yazidis and other peoples in the Ottoman Empire on December 19.

The government ruled to move the date to December 9, considering that the UN adopted the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide on this day in 1948.
