Armenia will reportedly become member of the Eurasian Economic Union from January2, 2015

Armenia may become a member of the Eurasian Economic Union on January 2, 2015, Anna Sysoeva of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development said at the sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan signed the Agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union in Astana on May 29. The agreement will come into force from January 1st, 2015. The Russian State Duma ratified it on September 26.

Sysoeva said Kazakhstan and Belarus are expected to ratify the document on October 2 and 7 respectively.

She said an agreement on Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Union has been perpetrated and if nothing changes, the agreements will be signed in Minsk on October 10, which will make it possible for Armenia to become a member of the Union from January 2, 2015.
