Russia and Georgia have resumed regular flights, the Russian air transport agency Rosaviatsiya said in a news release. Flights on the Moscow-Tbilisi-Moscow route were back to normal on September 15 first time since their suspension in August 2008, Itar-Tass reports.
Rosaviatsiya said that regular air links between the capitals of Russia and Georgia resumed in accordance with a Georgian Foreign Ministry note.
Earlier, the inter-departmental commission responsible for authorizing air carriers to operate international routes issued permissions to make regular flights between Moscow and Tbilisi to several Russian airlines: Aeroflot, VIM-Avia, Globus, Sibir, Transaero, Urals Airlines and UTair.
Until just recently only two air carriers — Russia’s Sibir (S7) and Georgian Airways — had performed occasional charter flights between Moscow and Tbilisi.
