Francois Hollande will attend Armenian Genocide commemoration on April 24

French President Francois Hollande has confirmed he will attend the commemoration of the 99th anniversary of the Armenian genocide. The President will make a speech to honor the memory of the 1.5 million victims of genocide at the statue of the Reverend Father Komitas, freelance journalist Jean Eckian reports from France.

The presence of the President reaffirms the commitment of the French Republic to the core values of democracy, the defense of truth and justice.

40 French cities will honor the victims of the genocide in 1915 perpetrated by the Ottoman government.

On 19 and 21 April, the French TV (Toute l’Histoire and LCP Public Senat) aired documentaries on the reality of the Armenian genocide.

France recognized the Armenian genocide on January 19, 2001.
