Dortmund to play Real Madrid in Champions League quarter-finals

Manchester United will face defending champions Bayern Munich in the last eight of the UEFA Champions League, while Barcelona-Atletico, Real Madrid-Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain-Chelsea were the other ties determined in Friday’s draw.

United staged an implausible last-gasp comeback to beat Bayern 2-1 in the 1999 decider, but the Bavarian giants eliminated the Mancunian heavyweights the last time they met in the competition, on away goals in the 2009/10 quarter-finals.

Barcelona had won six straight league matches against Atletico until a goalless draw in January. Atletico are second in La Liga, one place and one point above Barça.

The rivals have never met in Europe, but another Spanish side are familiar with their upcoming opponents. Real met Dortmund in last season’s semi-finals, with the Germans winning 4-3 on aggregate.
