Serzh Sargsyan: Nothing has changed in Armenia-EU relations

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Speaker of the Parliament of the Hellenic Republic Vangelis Meimarakis, President’s Press Office reported.

Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the high-ranking guest and expressed hope that his visit to Armenia will give new life to the development and consolidation of the Armenian-Greek relations. The President of Armenia underscored that Armenia stresses the importance of the Armenian-Greek multiform relations based on an age-old friendship and historical connections. According to the President, those relations have sufficient potential which should be realized by bilateral efforts.

The Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament also underscored with certainty that the centuries-old friendship of the Armenian and Greek people based on common values has a great future.

The interlocutors attached special importance to the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the improvement of a bilateral political dialogue positively assessing the activities of the friendship groups formed at the Armenian and Greek Parliaments. The parties agreed that the close collaboration between the legislative bodies can be highly advantageous for the development and advancement of the mutually beneficial cooperation between the governments of the two countries.

At the meeting, the Armenia-European Union (EU) relations were also touched upon. Speaking about their prospects, President Serzh Sargsyan underscored that nothing has changed in those relations: in November of last year, at the Vilnius summit Armenia confirmed its commitment to develop close cooperation with the EU, yesterday, at the meeting of the RA National Security Council the draft of the “2014-2015 List of Measures of the Implementation of the European Neighborhood Policy’s RA-EU Action Plan” was approved and the joint efforts to advance the subsequent collaboration continue.

The speaker of the Parliament of Greece, the country at present being in the chair of the EU, assured that in addition to the reinforcement of the bilateral ties, his country will do all its best to trigger the development of the RA-EU relations.
