Armenian, Russian PMs discuss the perspectives of economic cooperation

Within the framework of the working visit to Sochi, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan had a meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev.

Tigran Sargsyan first congratulated Medvedev on the successful conduct of the Winter Olympics in Sochi and the achievements of the Russian athletes.

The Heads of Government of the two countries discussed a number of issues on the agenda of Armenian-Russian strategic relations, the implementation of joint programs in the fields of energy, industry and infrastructures.

The interlocutors hailed the growing commodity turnover between the two countries and expressed confidence that it will gain new momentum after Armenia’s joining the Customs Union and the Common Economic Area.

Tigran Sargsyan and Dmitry Medvedev praised the process of implementation of the measures envisaged by the “roadmap” of accession to the Customs Union. The Russian Prime Minister said Armenia’s participation in Eurasian integration processes will give new impetus to the development and reinforcement of economic cooperation between the two countries.

In this context the interlocutors discussed a the modernization of a new energy unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant and the raise of its security level, as well as a wide range of issues related to industrial and humanitarian cooperation.

On February 23 Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the closing ceremony of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games. On the sidelines of the event the Armenian prime Minister had a short conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
