Turkish Armenian photographer Ara Güler hospitalized

Turkish Armenian photographer Ara Güler was urgently taken to the intensive care unit of Istanbul’s Memorial Hospital Thursday evening because of kidney failure.

According to fresh reports in Turkish media, the photographer’s health condition has improved and doctors are preparing to move him to a hospital room.

Ara Güler, recognized as the “Photographer of the Century” and known as “the Eye of Istanbul” – was born in 1928, and began his  career in 1950. His works are now on display in the exhibit “In Focus: Ara Güler’s Anatolia” at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery in Washington.
